Everyday Leader Monthly Tip: When to be Tenacious February 04, 2010 |
When to Be TenaciousThis one came up in a Masterminds meeting this week.SITUATION: Some issues just wear you out. You are not sure when you should give in and let go of the struggle as being "just the way it is" or push through the issue to resolution. KNOW THIS: A
reminder that some productivity does not come easy. Some instances
require tenacity,
and maybe bypassing a few people. Do not be afraid of tickin' off a few
of them. If you have your reasons on solid ground, you'll win respect
for it in the long run. TRY THIS: Look at issues with this
perspective. Categorize them as one of three types: Type I- Issues that
you have complete control
over. Type II - Issues that you don't control,
but have some degree of influence
over. Type III - Issues that are out of your
control and out of your influence. The last category may include regulatory issues or being in conflict with a critical priority of someone else. Sometimes it is the nature of the business. But the place to most closely look is Type II. Although they are a Type II for you, they may be a Type I for someone else, and we may erroneously assume we cannot affect it. We immediately dump it into the Type III bucket. A policy, for example, is often blown off as a Type III because it is "policy." But you'd be surprised how some seemingly impossible things have been changed. Know when you can influence, if even a little, and know when it is prudent to give up. But do it for the right reasons. :) A Request - can you help me build the subscriber list? (I know I already asked once ... I am tenacious).Help me ...
