MORE LEADERSHIP TIPS How to Avoid Annual Goal SettingDon'tcha love that title? SITUATION: You stink at annual goal setting. You feel you should do it, but avoiding it is preferred. Still ... oughta have some semblance of a strategic direction. TRY THIS: 3 steps. Do it alone or take your group through it.
CAVEAT: Not sure I recommend this for department goal setting unless you track action items in an ongoing to-do list with assignments to them, but it works really well for personal development goal setting. This method works well for an individual because it involves only one person - you. Departmental or business-wide goal setting gets into the dynamics of herding many people of many styles. Something defined, agreed to, and visible throughout the year works best for that.
