Analagous to defining a company "brand", leadership style sends signals about who you are, what is important to you, and how others will be interacting. It is one of the first things we look for when meeting with someone for the first time, so awareness of it is critical. Can you control it? Yes, to a large extent. How critical is it? If you are trying to sell something, including an idea, it is critical. It directly affects how well (or not) someone can feel comfortable with you in a transaction or building a relationship.
